Course Description

Overview

BA English explores literature, language and the ways written and spoken texts reflect, shape and challenge ideas. The course develops close reading, critical interpretation and independent thinking, enabling students to engage thoughtfully with texts across different periods, forms and contexts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to analyse literary texts closely and develop informed interpretations supported by appropriate evidence. They will understand how literary works can be examined through different critical perspectives and considered in relation to their wider cultural and historical contexts. Students will also be able to formulate independent arguments, evaluate different interpretations and conduct focused academic research. The course will strengthen their ability to communicate ideas clearly, structure sustained written arguments and engage critically with complex material. Through studying varied texts and approaches, students will develop a flexible understanding of how literature and language can be interpreted from multiple perspectives.

Requirements

Kuwait: Completion of High School / Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-A'ama (General Secondary Education Certificate) with a minimum overall average of 85%.
UKVI IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with no band below 5.5(or approved SELT equivalent).
