Overview

The BA (Hons) Classics explores the languages, literature, history, cultures, and ideas of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds. Students investigate how ancient societies developed and how their texts, beliefs, institutions, and artistic traditions have influenced later cultures and continue to shape interpretations of the past.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate informed knowledge of important aspects of ancient Greek and Roman civilisation and explain their historical and cultural significance. They will be able to analyse classical texts and other evidence critically, considering language, authorship, context, and interpretation. Students will develop an understanding of how political, social, religious, intellectual, and cultural factors interacted within ancient societies. They will also be able to compare different sources and perspectives, conduct independent research, and construct evidence-based arguments. The course will strengthen their ability to communicate complex ideas clearly while recognising how ancient material has been preserved, interpreted, adapted, and debated across different periods and cultures.

Requirements

Kuwait: Completion of High School / Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-A'ama (General Secondary Education Certificate) with a minimum overall average of 80%.
UKVI IELTS (Academic) 5.5 with no band below 5.5(or approved SELT equivalent).
