Course Description

Overview

Artificial intelligence now shapes much of everyday life, from voice assistants and personalised recommendations to decision-support tools used in healthcare, business and logistics. This programme at King's College London gives students a thorough grounding in how such systems are designed, reasoned about and applied, pairing rigorous technical training with an understanding of AI's expanding influence on society. Across the course, students explore the field's core pillars, moving from foundational computing and mathematical principles through to intelligent, autonomous systems capable of independent reasoning and action.

What You'll Learn

  • Formal logic and techniques for representing and reasoning with knowledge

  • Mathematical and statistical methods that underpin AI systems

  • Practical programming skills applied to real coding problems

  • Principles behind web-based and internet-connected systems

  • Robotics and the design of autonomous, sensing agents

  • Core machine learning concepts and data-driven decision making

  • How intelligent systems reason, interact with, and adapt to their environment

  • Bringing knowledge together through an independent project addressing a real-world AI challenge

Learning Outcomes By the end of the course, students will be able to explain and apply the theoretical foundations of AI across areas such as knowledge representation, machine learning and robotics. They will be equipped to design, build and evaluate intelligent systems using appropriate programming and mathematical tools, and to reason critically about how AI-driven decisions are reached. Students will also be able to draw on knowledge from across the programme to tackle complex, applied problems, developing the analytical and practical skills needed to create AI solutions responsibly and effectively.
