Overview
This programme at the University of Leeds trains students to become skilled programmers and algorithm designers within a constantly evolving field, where AI and smart technology now touch almost everything people do. It combines strong technical grounding with an emphasis on creative thinking and problem solving, preparing students to tackle current and emerging challenges in computing.
What You'll Learn
Core programming concepts, including Python, object-oriented programming, and low-level programming in C
Databases, SQL, and fundamental data management principles
Computer architecture and computer processors
Algorithms, computation, and mathematical modelling, underpinning areas such as machine learning and large-scale data processing
Algorithm design paradigms, further calculus and probability, and formal languages and computation theory
Networking, operating systems, and information security
Human-computer interaction, graphics, and software engineering fundamentals
Applied project work culminating in a substantial group project
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to design, implement, and evaluate software systems using sound algorithmic and mathematical foundations. They will be able to apply core computer science principles across areas such as databases, networks, and operating systems, and think critically about emerging challenges in the field. Students will also be equipped with practical, collaborative project experience, developing the skills needed to work as a professional programmer or continue into further study.
