Course Description

Overview

The BSc in Economics at King's College London is jointly delivered by the Department of Political Economy and King's Business School, combining rigorous economic theory with real-world application. Students build strong analytical and quantitative skills through the study of economic theory, statistics, mathematics, and econometrics, applying these tools to questions in the economy, politics, and public policy. The subject matters because it develops the evidence-based thinking needed to understand and respond to economic and political challenges in a global context.

What You'll Learn

  • Foundational economic theory, introduced through real-world scenarios using the CORE project approach

  • Mathematical and statistical techniques used in economic analysis

  • Econometrics and quantitative methods for testing economic ideas

  • The application of economic theory to problems in policy-making and public life

  • Perspectives from both political economy and business economics, reflecting the course's joint delivery

  • Increasing specialisation in later years as students choose from a wider range of economic topics

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply core economic theories and quantitative methods to analyse real-world economic and political problems. They will be equipped to use statistical and econometric techniques to test economic ideas and interpret data with rigour. Students will develop the ability to think critically and independently about economic issues, drawing on multiple analytical perspectives. These skills in quantitative reasoning, critical analysis, and policy-relevant thinking prepare graduates for further study or careers in economics, finance, policy, and related analytical fields.
