Course Description

Overview

The BSc (Hons) in Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology at King's College London explores how the human body is structured, how it develops, and how it has evolved over time. Students examine the body at the organismal, tissue, cellular, and molecular levels, connecting classical anatomy with cutting-edge research in embryology and cell biology. The subject matters because a detailed understanding of human structure and development underpins much of biomedical science, clinical practice, and health research.

What You'll Learn

  • Core biochemistry and cell biology relevant to human anatomy and development

  • The fundamentals of anatomy and developmental biology, including how body structures form and change

  • Genetics and molecular biology underlying human development

  • Fundamentals of pharmacology and physiology

  • Chemistry as applied to the biosciences

  • Practical laboratory and research skills used across the biosciences

  • The study of human structure and function across evolutionary, developmental, and ageing perspectives

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain how human anatomy develops and functions at organismal, tissue, cellular, and molecular levels. They will be equipped to interpret anatomical and developmental processes through the lens of evolution, genetics, and molecular biology. Students will develop strong practical laboratory skills, along with the ability to design, conduct, and analyse scientific investigations. These combined analytical and technical skills, together with a flexible foundation shared across related bioscience disciplines, prepare graduates for further study or careers in biomedical research, healthcare, and related scientific fields.
