Course Description

Overview

The BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence explores the concepts, techniques and technologies used to create systems capable of performing tasks that normally require aspects of human intelligence. The course develops a foundation in computing, programming, data and intelligent systems, helping students understand how AI approaches can be designed, implemented and evaluated.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental principles of artificial intelligence and computer science

  • Programming and computational problem-solving

  • Algorithms, data structures and computational methods

  • Mathematics and statistics relevant to AI

  • Machine learning concepts and techniques

  • Data management, analysis and representation

  • Neural networks and intelligent computational systems

  • Natural language processing and related AI applications

  • Computer vision and approaches to processing visual information

  • Ethical, social and professional considerations surrounding artificial intelligence

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain core concepts in artificial intelligence and apply computational techniques to structured problems. They will be able to develop and evaluate programs and intelligent systems using appropriate algorithms, data and machine learning approaches. Students will also understand how techniques such as neural networks, language processing and computer vision contribute to AI applications, and will be able to analyse relevant data and interpret computational results. The course will further enable students to assess the limitations and wider implications of artificial intelligence, including ethical and professional considerations, when evaluating or developing AI-based solutions.
