Overview

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) at Nottingham Trent University combines core computer science with the study of intelligent computational systems. The foundation stage builds essential knowledge in mathematics, programming, and computing, creating a platform for exploring artificial intelligence and its applications.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental mathematics and statistics for computing and artificial intelligence.

  • Programming, computational thinking, algorithms, and software development.

  • Computer systems, databases, networks, and the technologies supporting modern computing.

  • Artificial intelligence concepts, techniques, and computational approaches.

  • Machine learning and methods for enabling systems to identify patterns and make predictions.

  • Data handling and analysis for developing intelligent computational solutions.

  • Software engineering principles for designing, implementing, testing, and refining applications.

  • Problem-solving approaches for technical and data-driven challenges.

  • Research, communication, teamwork, and professional skills relevant to computing practice.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply programming, mathematical, and computational techniques to problems involving computer science and artificial intelligence. They will understand key principles behind intelligent systems and be able to evaluate how computational and data-driven methods can be used to address different challenges. Students will develop the ability to design, implement, test, and improve software solutions while considering the requirements of the problem being addressed. They will also be able to work with data, investigate technical issues systematically, and select suitable methods for developing computational solutions. The course will strengthen their understanding of how artificial intelligence connects with wider areas of computer science, while developing analytical, research, communication, and collaborative skills needed to undertake further study in the field.
