Course Description

Overview

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) combines core computing principles with the study of intelligent technologies and computational methods. Students explore how algorithms, software, data, and AI techniques can be used to analyse problems, develop intelligent systems, and create effective computing solutions.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental concepts of computer science and computational thinking

  • Programming, software development, and algorithm design

  • Data structures, databases, and information processing

  • Artificial intelligence principles, methods, and applications

  • Machine learning and approaches to intelligent system development

  • Data analysis and computational modelling

  • Computer systems, networks, and software technologies

  • AI system design, testing, and performance evaluation

  • Research methods and critical evaluation of computing and AI approaches

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply computer science and artificial intelligence concepts to investigate complex computational problems and develop appropriate solutions. They will be able to design, implement, test, and evaluate software and intelligent systems using suitable programming and algorithmic techniques. Students will understand key AI and machine learning principles and how these can be applied to data-driven and computational tasks. They will also develop the ability to analyse data, interpret results, evaluate technical approaches, and recognise the limitations of different AI methods. The course will strengthen programming, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, enabling students to communicate technical ideas clearly and make informed decisions when designing and assessing computer science and artificial intelligence solutions.
