Course Description

Overview

This degree pairs a solid grounding in core computer science with a focused specialism in artificial intelligence, reflecting how AI has become central to modern software and technology development. Studying at the University of Lincoln, students build practical and theoretical expertise across programming, software engineering, and data-driven systems, before progressing into advanced AI-specific areas. The course suits those who want both a broad computing education and a clear pathway into one of the field's fastest-growing specialisms.

What You'll Learn

  • Foundational computing skills including problem solving, programming, and software engineering

  • Data science principles that underpin AI-driven applications

  • Artificial intelligence concepts, alongside full stack development and networking

  • Natural language processing techniques

  • Collaborative software engineering through team-based project work

  • Advanced specialisms such as machine learning, deep learning, image processing, and autonomous mobile robotics

  • Mobile application development

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to design, build, and evaluate software systems using established programming and engineering practices. They will understand how artificial intelligence techniques, including machine learning and deep learning, can be applied to solve real-world problems. Students will be able to work with data-driven systems and natural language processing methods, and will have gained experience collaborating within a team to plan and deliver a substantial software project. They will also be equipped to explore specialised applications of AI, such as robotics and image processing, and to apply mobile development skills within broader computing contexts. Overall, graduates will leave with the technical depth and adaptability needed to work across both general software development and specialist AI-focused roles.
