Overview
The BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Cyber Security at the University of York combines core computer science with the study of protecting digital systems, networks and information. The course develops technical and analytical knowledge of computing while exploring how security risks can be identified, assessed and addressed in increasingly complex digital environments.
What You'll Learn
Programming, algorithms and data structures for developing computational solutions.
Computer architecture, operating systems and the fundamental principles of computing systems.
Software engineering and approaches to designing, developing and evaluating software.
Computer networks and the technologies that enable digital communication.
Cyber security principles, threats, vulnerabilities and approaches to protecting systems.
Cryptography and techniques for securing information and communications.
Security analysis, risk assessment and methods for responding to cyber security challenges.
Research, critical thinking, problem-solving and effective technical communication.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply computer science principles to analyses problems and develop appropriate computational solutions. They will understand how software, hardware, networks and data interact and how security considerations affect the design and operation of digital systems. Students will be able to identify common security risks, evaluate vulnerabilities and apply relevant technical approaches to protecting information and computing environments. They will also develop skills in programming, algorithmic reasoning, system analysis and software development. Through research and practical problem-solving, students will learn to evaluate technical evidence, make informed decisions and communicate complex computing and cyber security concepts clearly and accurately.
