Overview
Nursing is a career built on compassion, clinical skill and sound judgement, with a direct effect on people's health and wellbeing at every stage of adult life. Studying BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) at Keele University prepares students to qualify as competent and confident adult nurses. The course is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and is designed around the seven platforms that underpin pre-registration nursing education. Teaching is delivered by lecturers who are expert clinicians and qualified teachers across different specialisms, and their research informs what is taught. Students build practical confidence in clinical simulation spaces, which include two on-campus areas, the Clinical Education Centre and two simulation families of eight mannequins. This is balanced with learning in real placement settings, organised through structured blocks of academic study and practice. The course suits people motivated to make a difference to others who want a rewarding career with varied opportunities, and successful graduates are eligible to apply for NMC registration as nurses.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge and clinical competence expected of a registered adult nurse, shaped by the seven NMC platforms that frame nursing education. They will understand the scientific, professional and practical foundations of adult nursing and be able to apply them confidently in real care settings. Repeated practice in simulation facilities allows them to develop skills safely before using them with patients, while placements provide authentic experience of working within clinical teams and responding to varied needs. Learning from clinicians who are also qualified teachers helps students link theory to practice and to appreciate how research shapes the care they deliver. Support from practice assessors and personal tutors helps them reflect on their progress and meet the standards required of the profession. Graduates will be able to practise in a professional, safe and accountable way, to continue developing their expertise across the diverse opportunities nursing offers, and to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
