Course Description

Overview

This programme at the University of Leeds prepares students to become forward-thinking child nurses with the competence and confidence to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-informed care. Developed alongside service users, carers, students, and practitioners, the course combines academic study with hands-on clinical practice to build the resilience and communication skills needed in a complex, ever-changing healthcare environment.

What You'll Learn

  • Core clinical skills such as measuring vital signs, medication management, and enteral feeding methods

  • How to search for, identify, and use evidence to underpin nursing practice

  • Recognising and understanding health inequalities and their effect on access to services

  • The relationship between mental and physical health, and the impact of pre-existing conditions

  • Behaviour and development in children and young people

  • Delivering care across a range of clinical environments, including medicine, surgery, community, and high dependency or critical care

  • Working inclusively with children, young people, families, and other professionals involved in their care

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to think critically and deliver high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-informed care to children, young people, and their families. They will be able to apply essential clinical and communication skills across a range of healthcare settings, working effectively within multi-disciplinary and inter-professional teams. Students will also be equipped to recognise and respond to health inequalities, and to draw on research evidence to inform safe, person-centred nursing practice.

Requirements

Kuwait: Completion of High School / Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-A'ama (General Secondary Education Certificate) with a minimum overall average of 85%, including 85% in Chemistry and Biology.
UKVI IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with no band below 5.5 (or approved SELT equivalent).
