Course Description

Overview

Evaluating corporate financial performance, managing capital allocation, and ensuring rigorous accounting compliance are crucial to the operation of modern global markets. The Accounting & Finance BSc at King's College London provides a comprehensive, research-led education delivered within King's Business School in central London. Taught by academic specialists and industry practitioners, the curriculum integrates technical accounting standards, corporate finance principles, capital market dynamics, and quantitative analytics. Students gain a solid grounding in financial reporting, management accounting, corporate law, and economic principles before exploring advanced disciplines such as audit, investment management, and taxation. The degree offers significant exemptions from major professional bodies—including the ACCA, ICAEW, and CIMA—accelerating progression toward chartered accountant status. This course is ideally suited for analytical, quantitative thinkers who wish to master financial frameworks, evaluate corporate valuation, and prepare for high-impact professional careers in auditing, investment banking, financial consultancy, and corporate finance.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental principles of financial reporting, international accounting standards, and financial statement preparation

  • Core concepts in management accounting, cost analysis, budgeting, and performance management systems

  • Corporate finance theory, capital structure evaluation, asset valuation models, and investment decision-making

Learning Outcomes

Graduates will possess an in-depth understanding of accounting principles, financial management theories, and regulatory frameworks governing global commercial entities. They will demonstrate the capability to construct and analyze complex financial statements, build quantitative valuation models, and evaluate corporate financial risk under varying economic conditions. Students acquire strong practical competencies in financial software utilization, statistical data interpretation, managerial accounting formulation, and audit evaluation through practical computer workshops and structured problem-solving assignments. Furthermore, scholars master the ability to communicate technical financial data clearly, delivering strategic advice and reporting findings to both financial specialists and non-expert executive stakeholders. Through research-informed teaching, professional accreditation pathways, and close proximity to London's international financial district, graduates cultivate the commercial precision, ethical awareness, and analytical rigor required to excel as professional accountants, financial analysts, investment managers, risk consultants, tax advisors, or postgraduate researchers.
