Course Description

Overview:

The BSc(Hons) Actuarial Mathematics provides a foundation in the mathematical principles used to analyse uncertainty, risk, and financial outcomes. The course brings together mathematical thinking with actuarial applications, helping students develop the quantitative understanding needed to investigate complex problems systematically. At the University of Liverpool, this programme is suited to students seeking a structured introduction to actuarial mathematics and its underlying concepts.

What You'll Learn:

  • Core mathematical ideas that support actuarial analysis and quantitative problem-solving.

  • Methods for working with mathematical models and applying them to situations involving uncertainty.

  • Fundamental concepts relevant to actuarial mathematics and the assessment of risk.

  • Quantitative approaches for interpreting financial and probability-related problems.

  • Techniques for analysing information, identifying patterns, and drawing reasoned conclusions.

  • The relationship between mathematical theory and its practical use in actuarial contexts.

  • Logical and analytical approaches for tackling structured problems using appropriate mathematical methods.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply fundamental mathematical principles to problems associated with actuarial analysis and uncertainty. They will understand how quantitative methods can be used to represent and examine risk, and will be able to approach mathematical problems in a structured and analytical way. Students will also be able to interpret relevant information, select suitable mathematical techniques, and communicate their reasoning clearly. Through the integration of mathematical concepts and actuarial applications, they will develop a sound foundation for further study of the subject and a clearer understanding of how mathematical analysis contributes to the evaluation of uncertain outcomes.
