Overview

Understanding power relations, institutional governance, and ideological conflicts is essential for evaluating how decisions shape modern global society. The BSc (Hons) Politics at University of Southampton delivers a comprehensive education grounded in political theory, comparative governance, and international relations. Taught by research-active scholars, the curriculum investigates critical contemporary issues such as democratic stability, global crises, human rights, and public policy frameworks. Students benefit from rigorous methodological training, exploring both quantitative empirical analysis and qualitative social inquiry. The course design balances foundational political study with extensive optional module selection, enabling scholars to align their studies with specialist regional or thematic interests. This degree is ideally suited for analytical, politically curious individuals who wish to interrogate governmental systems, evaluate policy decisions, and launch influential careers across public administration, diplomacy, campaign advocacy, think tanks, and political journalism.
