Course Description

Overview:

Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) BSc introduces the core principles of computing alongside the concepts and techniques used to develop intelligent systems. The course provides a foundation for understanding how software, algorithms, data and computational methods can be combined to address complex problems in artificial intelligence.

What You'll Learn:

  • Fundamental concepts of computer science, including programming, algorithms and computational thinking.

  • Mathematical and logical principles that support computer science and artificial intelligence.

  • Methods for designing, implementing and evaluating software solutions.

  • Core ideas in artificial intelligence and approaches to building systems that can perform tasks associated with intelligent behaviour.

  • The role of data in computational systems and AI-based problem solving.

  • Principles of algorithmic reasoning, enabling efficient approaches to computational challenges.

  • Practical approaches to applying computer science concepts to artificial intelligence problems.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain fundamental concepts in computer science and artificial intelligence and apply them to relevant computational problems. They will be able to develop and assess programs using appropriate programming and algorithmic techniques, while applying mathematical and logical reasoning to support their work. Students will also understand how data and computational methods contribute to intelligent systems and will be able to evaluate different approaches to solving problems in this area. The course will develop a structured approach to analysing problems, selecting suitable computational techniques and assessing the effectiveness of resulting solutions. Students will also gain an understanding of the relationship between general computer science principles and their application within artificial intelligence.dation Year in Science and Engineering leads to a wide range of undergraduate engineering and science degrees at the University.
