Overview:

Geography and Planning BA (Hons) brings together human geography and spatial planning to examine how people, places and environments interact. At the University of Sheffield, the course explores urban change, inequality, environmental challenges and the policies that influence how places develop, providing a broad foundation for understanding complex geographical and planning issues.

• Principles of spatial planning, the role of government, and the relationship between planning, development and the state.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain major concepts and debates in human geography and planning and apply them to contemporary urban, social and environmental issues. They will be able to critically assess how policies, institutions, economic processes and social forces influence the development of places and affect different communities. Students will also be able to work with geographical and urban data, use spatial and quantitative approaches to investigate questions, and communicate evidence-based findings clearly. The course develops the ability to evaluate planning interventions and environmental responses from multiple perspectives, recognise connections between local and global challenges, and conduct independent research into a chosen geographical or planning topic.
