Overview
Modern pharmacists do far more than dispense medicine, acting as trusted health advisors and key contributors to research within their communities. The MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy at the University of Birmingham combines the science behind medicines, from human physiology to drug design, with extensive clinical placements across primary care, community pharmacy and hospital settings in every year of the course. Students train in dedicated facilities including formulation laboratories, clinical simulation spaces and patient consultation suites, based in one of the UK's largest and most diverse healthcare regions. The course suits students who want a practically grounded, GPhC-accredited route into pharmacy, building clinical communication and decision-making skills from day one.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply scientific knowledge of physiology, pharmacology and drug design to the safe and effective use of medicines. They will be equipped to communicate clinically and compassionately with patients, having built these skills through simulation training and extensive placements across primary, community and hospital pharmacy. Through an independent research project, students will develop strong investigative and evidence-based practice skills relevant to modern pharmacy. Graduates will be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council following a foundation training year, ready to pursue careers across community pharmacy, hospitals, industry, academia and regulatory bodies.
