Overview:

Politics and Sociology BA (Hons) examines how political systems, social structures and patterns of inequality shape people’s lives and communities. The course brings together political and sociological perspectives to develop a broader understanding of power, institutions, social change and contemporary society at the University of Sheffield.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain key concepts and theories in politics and sociology and use them to examine social and political issues. They will be able to assess competing interpretations, identify relationships between political institutions and social structures, and develop evidence-based arguments. Students will also be able to critically evaluate sources and research, communicate ideas clearly in written and spoken forms, and apply appropriate analytical approaches to questions concerning power, society, inequality and change. The interdisciplinary perspective will enable students to connect political and sociological explanations rather than considering social issues through a single academic lens.
