Course Description

Overview

The BEng (Hons) Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering combines mechanical, electronic, electrical, and computing principles to explore the design and operation of automated systems. Students learn how these disciplines work together to create, control, and improve intelligent machines and robotic technologies.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental engineering mathematics, mechanics, and electrical principles

  • Electronic systems, sensors, actuators, and control technologies

  • Mechanical design and engineering systems

  • Programming and computational methods for engineering applications

  • Robotics, automation, and autonomous system concepts

  • Control systems and feedback mechanisms

  • System integration across mechanical, electronic, and software components

  • Engineering design, modelling, testing, and evaluation

  • Problem-solving approaches for complex multidisciplinary systems

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply engineering principles from mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computing disciplines to multidisciplinary problems. They will understand how sensors, actuators, control systems, software, and mechanical components interact within automated and robotic systems. Students will be able to analyse requirements, develop engineering solutions, and use appropriate methods to model, test, and evaluate system performance. They will also develop programming and computational skills relevant to controlling and integrating engineered systems. The course will strengthen their ability to investigate technical problems systematically, assess alternative solutions, and communicate engineering decisions clearly. Students will gain an integrated understanding of how mechatronic and robotic technologies are designed, controlled, and evaluated as complete engineering systems.
