Course Description

Overview

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science develops a broad understanding of computing concepts, software, algorithms, and computational problem-solving. Students explore how computer systems are designed and implemented while building the analytical, programming, and technical abilities needed to understand and address complex computing challenges.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental concepts and principles of computer science

  • Programming languages, software development, and computational thinking

  • Algorithms, data structures, and problem-solving techniques

  • Computer systems, architecture, and operating principles

  • Databases, data management, and information processing

  • Computer networks and communication technologies

  • Software engineering, testing, and system development

  • Cybersecurity principles and responsible computing practices

  • Mathematical, analytical, and research methods relevant to computing

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply computer science principles to analyse problems and develop appropriate computational solutions. They will be able to design, implement, test, and evaluate software using suitable programming, algorithmic, and development techniques. Students will understand how computer systems, networks, databases, and software components work together and will be able to assess their operation using appropriate analytical approaches. They will also develop the ability to investigate computing problems, work with data and technical information, and evaluate alternative solutions critically. The course will strengthen logical reasoning, programming, research, and communication skills, enabling students to explain technical concepts clearly and approach computing challenges systematically, creatively, and with appropriate consideration of reliability, security, and responsible practice.
