Overview
The BSc (Hons) Data Science and Analytics at the University of Essex combines statistical thinking, computing and data analysis to explore how information can be transformed into useful insights. The course develops an understanding of how data is collected, processed, analysed and interpreted, with emphasis on applying analytical approaches to complex questions and real-world datasets.
What You'll Learn
Core principles of data science, statistics and mathematical analysis.
Programming and computational techniques for working with data.
Data management, preparation and methods for handling different types of datasets.
Statistical modelling and analytical techniques for identifying patterns and relationships.
Machine learning concepts and approaches to extracting insights from data.
Data visualisation and effective presentation of analytical findings.
Research methods and approaches for investigating data-driven questions.
Critical thinking, problem-solving and communication of technical results to different audiences.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply statistical, mathematical and computational techniques to investigate data and address analytical problems. They will understand how to prepare, manage and evaluate datasets and select appropriate methods for analysing them. Students will be able to identify patterns within data, assess the reliability of analytical results and communicate findings using suitable visual and written formats. The course also develops the ability to approach complex problems systematically, evaluate evidence critically and use data-driven reasoning to support informed conclusions.
