Overview

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical Laboratory Science) provides a rigorous foundation in the biological and chemical mechanisms underlying human disease and laboratory diagnostics. Delivered by Deakin University, this program equips students with the scientific principles required to examine cellular patterns, bodily fluids, and tissue structures. Developing a strong grasp of diagnostic science prepares individuals to support accurate clinical assessments and advance patient care through evidence-based analysis.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental principles of cell biology, biochemistry, and human genetics

  • Structural organization of human anatomy and general physiology

  • Basic concepts of microbiology, immunology, and host defense mechanisms

  • Core laboratory procedures, specimen processing, and analytical techniques

  • Principles of scientific inquiry, experimental design, and biological data handling

Learning Outcomes

Upon finishing this program, students will be able to apply essential scientific techniques to collect, analyze, and interpret biological data within laboratory contexts. Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of normal human biological function compared to diseased states, maintain appropriate laboratory safety protocols, and communicate scientific concepts clearly. Furthermore, learners will build the foundational knowledge necessary to pursue specialized study in diagnostic medicine and related health sciences.
