Course Description

Overview

This program provides a strong grounding in biological and environmental sciences while building specialized knowledge in ocean ecosystems and aquatic organisms. Students explore marine biodiversity, ecological processes, and how coastal habitats respond to environmental changes and human impacts. Offered by Murdoch University, the course equips future scientists with practical research skills to contribute to marine conservation and sustainable aquatic resource management.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamentals of biological sciences, ecological concepts, and marine biodiversity.

  • Dynamics of coastal and open-ocean ecosystems, including coral reefs, estuaries, and benthic environments.

  • Marine fauna and flora identification, physiology, and evolutionary adaptation principles.

  • Field research methodologies, sampling techniques, and spatial data collection strategies.

  • Ocean conservation methods, environmental policy frameworks, and sustainable fisheries management.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates evaluate marine ecosystems and ecological data using scientific methods to identify environmental challenges and conservation priorities. By applying biological theories, field research techniques, and data analysis frameworks, students develop evidence-based strategies to protect ocean habitats, assess human impacts, and support sustainable marine management practices.
