Course Description

Overview

Exploring literary form, critical theory, and creative expression across diverse historical periods and global cultures is central to understanding human experience and societal transformation. The English BA at King's College London offers a dynamic, research-led education delivered within one of the UK's premier humanities faculties. Positioned at the heart of London, the program combines foundational studies in medieval, early modern, and nineteenth-century literatures with modern global fictions, postcolonial writing, and creative practice. Students engage in rigorous textual analysis, theoretical debates, and interdisciplinary investigations, evaluating how literature intersects with history, philosophy, politics, and visual art. The curriculum emphasizes independent critical thought, scholarly research, and articulate communication, offering flexible pathways that allow students to tailor their studies or complete an extended final-year dissertation. This course is ideally suited for passionate readers, analytical writers, and culturally curious individuals who wish to interrogate literary traditions, analyze complex texts, and pursue versatile careers in publishing, journalism, education, corporate strategy, or the creative industries.
