Overview

Electronic and electrical systems sit behind nearly every modern technology, from communications networks to power distribution, and mastering them opens doors across a huge range of industries. The BEng (Hons) Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Birmingham builds strong theoretical and practical skills, teaching students to design circuits, develop communications systems and understand how power networks operate. Students work in the state-of-the-art Collaborative Teaching Laboratory and Makerspace, collaborating with mechanical and civil engineers through Integrated Design Projects before specialising further. The course suits students who want a broad, IET-accredited engineering education with genuine flexibility to explore different branches of engineering before committing to a specialism.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply core electronic and electrical engineering principles to design circuits, communications systems and power networks. They will be equipped to use specialist knowledge in areas such as power electronics and digital systems to solve real engineering problems. Through Integrated Design Projects and an Individual Research Project, students will develop strong practical, collaborative and problem-solving skills, working alongside engineers from other disciplines. Graduates will leave with an IET-accredited, industry-relevant education in electronic and electrical engineering, well prepared for a wide-ranging career spanning banking, aerospace, automotive and electronics sectors.

 

Requirements

Kuwait: High School / Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-A'ama (General Secondary Education Certificate) is not accepted for direct undergraduate entry. Completion of a recognized foundation course (or A-Levels / equivalent qualification) is required
UKVI IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 (or approved SELT equivalent)
Pass in the foundation course
Completion of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) / English Language Module within the Foundation Programme with a minimum score of 55%
Minimum 100 credits on the Programme & minimum 60% in Mathematics I and Mathematics II and 40% in Physical Sciences & 55% in Academic English and Study Skills or Advanced Academic English and Study Skills or Advanced Academic Skills
