Course Description

Overview

Addressing modern clinical challenges requires a synergy between biological sciences and technological innovation. Offered by University College Dublin, this foundational program bridges classic physical engineering disciplines with deep insights into human anatomy and biological function. By analyzing the human body as an integrated complex system, students explore how quantitative analytical methods can transform medical treatment, leading to new healthcare solutions and therapeutic advancements.

What You'll Learn

  • Core physical science and mathematical fundamentals, including calculus, linear algebra, and mechanics.

  • Principles of electrical circuit design, electronic systems, and computational methods for engineers.

  • Fundamentals of human anatomical structures, biological systems, and physiological processes.

  • Introductory concepts in bioinstrumentation, biosensors, and medical device design.

  • Theoretical and practical approaches to mechanics, biomaterials, and tissue culture.

  • Principles of neural engineering, rehabilitation technology, and physiological signal analysis.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this program, students will be able to apply quantitative engineering methodologies to solve complex clinical and biological problems. Learners will possess the capability to model biophysical processes, design initial medical technology concepts, and analyze mechanical or electrical behaviors within physiological contexts. Additionally, graduates will establish a firm interdisciplinary grounding, enabling them to evaluate technological safety, understand health system requirements, and work effectively across engineering and clinical domains.

Requirements

Kuwait: Completion of High School / Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-A'ama (General Secondary Education Certificate) with a minimum overall average of 85%, including 75% in Biology and Mathematics.
