Overview
The BSc (Hons) Actuarial Science at Swansea University applies mathematics, statistics and financial analysis to the study of risk and uncertainty. The course develops quantitative and problem-solving skills for evaluating uncertain outcomes and understanding how mathematical and statistical models can support financial decision-making.
What You'll Learn
Mathematical techniques and statistical principles used in actuarial analysis.
Probability and methods for measuring and interpreting uncertainty.
Financial mathematics and quantitative approaches to financial problems.
Economic and financial concepts relevant to risk and decision-making.
Statistical modelling and analysis of data.
Actuarial approaches to assessing risk and estimating potential future outcomes.
Computational techniques for handling and analyzing quantitative information.
Methods for applying mathematical reasoning to complex financial and risk-related problems.
Research, critical analysis, problem-solving and communication of quantitative findings.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply mathematical, statistical and financial concepts to problems involving uncertainty and risk. They will understand how probability and statistical models can be used to analyse data and evaluate possible future outcomes. Students will develop the ability to select suitable quantitative techniques, interpret results and assess the assumptions and limitations of different models. They will also be able to approach complex problems systematically, use evidence to support conclusions and communicate technical findings clearly. The course strengthens numerical reasoning and analytical thinking while developing an understanding of how mathematical and statistical methods can be applied to financial and actuarial questions.
