Overview
The BSc (Hons) Actuarial Science focuses on the mathematical, statistical and financial techniques used to analyse uncertainty and assess risk. The course develops the analytical foundation needed to understand how data, probability and financial principles can be applied to complex problems involving future events and financial outcomes.
What You'll Learn
Mathematical methods and quantitative techniques for actuarial analysis
Probability and statistical concepts for evaluating uncertainty
Financial mathematics and the principles of investment
Actuarial models for analysing risk and future outcomes
Statistical data analysis and interpretation
Economics and its relevance to financial decision-making
Principles of insurance and risk management
Life insurance and related financial risks
Financial and demographic modelling
Professional, ethical and regulatory considerations in actuarial practice
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply mathematical and statistical methods to investigate uncertain events and financial risks. They will understand how actuarial models are developed and used to assess potential future outcomes, and will be able to interpret quantitative information to support informed analysis. Students will also be able to apply financial and economic principles to relevant actuarial problems, evaluate risks across areas such as insurance and investments, and communicate analytical findings clearly. The course will develop an understanding of the professional and ethical considerations involved in applying quantitative methods to financial and risk-related decisions.
