Overview
Businesses now run on data and digital systems, and the professionals who can connect technology with commercial goals are central to how organisations grow and adapt. The BSc (Hons) Business Computing with Analytics course at Bournemouth University combines business understanding, technical skill and data analytics, so that graduates can meet the changing needs of employers worldwide. Students work in specialist laboratories with enterprise-grade hardware and virtualisation-ready infrastructure, including a Cyber Competency Centre funded by the Office for Students. Practical, industry-focused tasks sit alongside research projects that bring together university staff and experts from other institutions and industry in the UK and abroad. Teaching comes from senior academics, qualified practitioners, demonstrators, technicians and research students, with regular guest lectures from industry. The course has initial accreditation from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, pending full accreditation, and students may choose to take a work placement. Machine learning, database design and data visualisation feature alongside software, security and innovation topics, giving the degree a strong analytical core. It suits analytical, technical and creative students who want to transform business processes through IT, and they will gain the skills to work in roles that drive business innovation.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will understand computing and business at several levels, from hardware, networking and virtualisation to information security, systems design and the wider technical, legal and social impact of digital technology. They will be able to query and design databases, analyse business data, apply machine learning techniques and present findings through effective data visualisation that supports sound decisions. Laboratory work and team-based units build hands-on competence in programming, algorithms and the development of software solutions, while units on innovation and software business develop commercial awareness and the ability to build a digital portfolio around business transformation. Students learn to evaluate emerging technologies critically and to apply mathematical reasoning to real-world computing problems. The individual project asks them to identify a problem and then select and implement a solution, and option units allow them to specialise in areas such as human computer interaction, software quality assurance or enterprise systems development.
