Overview
The BSc (Hons) Computer Science course develops a broad understanding of computing, software development and digital technologies. At Bournemouth University, students explore how computer systems are designed and developed while building the analytical, programming and problem-solving skills needed to address technical challenges.
What You'll Learn
- Fundamental principles of computer science and computational thinking
- Programming, software development and object-oriented approaches
- Algorithms, data structures and computational problem-solving
- Computer systems, operating systems and computer architecture
- Databases, data management and information systems
- Web technologies and software applications
- Computer networks and communication technologies
- Software engineering principles, development processes and testing
- Mathematics and analytical techniques for computing
- Research methods, professional practice and emerging computing technologies
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply fundamental computer science concepts to analyse and solve computing problems. They will develop the ability to design, implement and evaluate software solutions using appropriate programming techniques, algorithms and data structures. Students will understand how computer systems, networks and databases work together and will be able to assess technical requirements when developing computing applications. They will also be able to investigate computing problems systematically, evaluate different technological approaches and communicate technical information effectively. The course further develops professional and analytical skills for responding to changing technologies and applying computer science knowledge to practical problems.
