Course Description

Overview:

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Cyber Security) develops a strong foundation in computing with a particular focus on protecting systems, networks, software, and digital information. The course combines core computer science principles with cyber security concepts, helping students build a structured understanding of how technology is designed, operated, and secured.

What You'll Learn:

  • Fundamental principles of computer science, including programming, algorithms, data structures, and computational thinking.

  • Core concepts in cyber security and the protection of digital systems and information.

  • Computer networks and the principles involved in securing networked environments.

  • Software development and the role of secure practices in designing and implementing applications.

  • Data, systems, and the technologies that underpin modern computing environments.

  • Problem-solving approaches for analysing computing and security-related challenges.

  • The relationship between computer science concepts and practical cyber security applications.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain key concepts across computer science and cyber security and apply them to computing problems. They will be able to develop and evaluate software using appropriate programming and computational principles, while recognising security considerations throughout the development process. Students will also understand how computer networks and digital systems operate and how security principles can be applied to help protect them. Through analytical and problem-solving approaches, they will be able to assess computing and cyber security challenges, select appropriate methods for addressing them, and communicate their technical reasoning clearly.
