Course Description

Overview:

This foundation-level course combines geography with management, giving students an interdisciplinary understanding of how places, environments, organisations, and economic activity interact. At Loughborough University, the programme provides a broad academic base for exploring geographical issues alongside the principles and practices of management.

What You'll Learn:

  • Core concepts and approaches used in physical and human geography.

  • The relationships between people, places, environments, and wider social and economic processes.

  • Fundamental ideas in management and how organisations operate within changing contexts.

  • Connections between geographical factors and organisational, economic, and managerial decision-making.

  • Academic skills for researching, interpreting, and communicating geographical and management-related issues.

  • Ways of using evidence and geographical perspectives to examine contemporary challenges and complex systems.

  • Interdisciplinary approaches that bring together geographical knowledge and management thinking.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain key concepts from geography and management and recognise how the two disciplines can inform one another. They will be able to examine geographical, environmental, social, and organisational issues using appropriate concepts and evidence, while developing structured approaches to research and analysis. Students will also be able to interpret information critically, communicate ideas clearly, and apply academic methods to questions involving people, places, environments, and management. The course will support students in building a foundation for further study by developing their understanding across both subject areas and their ability to consider complex issues from more than one disciplinary perspective.
