Course Description

Overview

This course explores how diseases alter bodily functions and how chemical agents interact with biological systems to counteract pathology. Starting with foundational scientific preparation, the program progresses into advanced drug discovery principles, biochemical interactions, and therapeutic development. Studying at the University of Lancashire combines extensive laboratory experimentations with theoretical studies, equipping students with a deep understanding of molecular science, physiological systems, and modern pharmaceutical innovations.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental chemical, mathematical, and biological concepts necessary for degree-level bioscience studies.

  • Cellular mechanisms, gene expression, genetic mutation inheritance, and protein functionality.

  • Human physiological organ systems, disease pathology, and target mechanisms of drug actions.

  • Phases of drug development, including clinical testing procedures and pharmacokinetics evaluation.

  • Cutting-edge therapeutic approaches involving neuropharmacology, targeted cancer interventions, nanotechnology, and personalized healthcare models.

  • Core scientific skills including literature searching, database application, scientific communication, and ethical practices.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this program, students will be able to analyze how therapeutic compounds interact with cellular structures and physiological systems to address pathological conditions. Graduates will gain the ability to apply standard laboratory methodologies to evaluate drug efficacy, safety parameters, and metabolic pathways. Furthermore, students will develop the capacity to critically assess complex scientific data, communicate technical findings clearly, and conduct independent experimental projects.
