Overview

Adult nursing brings together clinical skill and genuine compassion, working closely with patients and families as part of a wider team including doctors, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) at the University of Brighton splits learning between academic terms and blocks of clinical practice, alternating theory and placement throughout the degree. Students train in dedicated clinical skills and simulation suites before applying these skills across hospital and community placements in Surrey, Sussex and Kent, with the added opportunity to gain nursing experience abroad. The course suits students who want a practically grounded route into nursing, sharing modules with other nursing courses for genuine interprofessional collaboration.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to carry out holistic nursing assessments and develop care plans in genuine partnership with patients and the wider multi-disciplinary team. They will be equipped to recognise and manage clinical deterioration, applying strong clinical decision-making and evidence-based practice across acute and community settings. Through extensive practice placements and simulation-based training, students will develop the leadership, communication and reflective skills needed for complex, real-world nursing care. Graduates will be eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, ready to pursue a wide range of nursing career paths across acute care, community health, specialist practice and further postgraduate study.
