What we eat plays a genuine role in preventing illness and promoting good health, and turning that science into real community impact takes both technical skill and social understanding. The BSc (Hons) Nutrition at Leeds Beckett University builds practical expertise in the university's dedicated food inspection and nutrition labs, while exploring the psychological and sociological factors that shape people's eating habits. Students apply this learning directly through work-based placements across sectors from sports nutrition to public health, gaining hands-on experience alongside professional accreditation from the Association for Nutrition. The course suits students who want a genuinely applied route into nutrition, developing the practical, communication and research skills valued by employers across the sector.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply core physiological and biochemical knowledge to explain the relationship between food, nutrition and health. They will be equipped to critically evaluate nutrition science and analyse data on nutrition-related health and disease, drawing on strong research and statistical skills. Through work-based placements and an independent research project, students will develop practical experience delivering nutrition support across settings from community health to sports and industry. Graduates will be eligible to register as an associate nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition, well prepared for careers spanning public health, the food industry, sports nutrition and further clinical training.
