Course Description

Overview

This programme at the University of Leeds prepares students to become future-focused mental health nurses with the competence and confidence to think critically and deliver high-quality, compassionate, evidence-informed care. Students build resilience and strong communication skills throughout, learning to work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team that includes GPs, social workers, carers, and psychiatrists.

What You'll Learn

  • Core concepts of health and wellbeing, and how to apply these specifically within mental health nursing

  • The relationship between mental and physical health, including the impact of long-term, life-limiting, and life-threatening conditions

  • How to manage conditions, recognise signs of deterioration, and provide complex care for acutely and critically ill patients

  • Working in partnership with service users, families, and the wider multi-professional team

  • Promoting health and wellbeing and facilitating recovery through empathetic engagement

  • Delivering care in a holistic manner, drawing on professional, cultural, and evidence-based perspectives

  • Providing quality care across a life-span and in varied clinical and non-clinical settings

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to think critically and deliver high-quality, compassionate, evidence-informed mental health care. They will be able to recognise deterioration and respond appropriately to complex and acute presentations, while working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Students will also be equipped to build resilient, empathetic relationships with service users and families, and to support health promotion and recovery within a holistic model of care.

Requirements

Kuwait: Completion of High School / Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-A'ama (General Secondary Education Certificate) with a minimum overall average of 85%, including 85% in Chemistry and Biology.
UKVI IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with no band below 5.5 (or approved SELT equivalent).
