Course Description

Overview

Physiotherapists help people regain movement and function after illness or injury, working with conditions that span neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory health. This BSc at City St George's, University of London is accredited by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health and Care Professions Council, and builds the knowledge, clinical judgement and practical skills needed to assess and treat patients effectively. Teaching blends academic study with substantial hands-on practice, so students are prepared for the realities of clinical work from an early stage in the course.

What You'll Learn

  • Human anatomy, physiology and the mechanics of movement

  • Principles of therapeutic exercise and manual treatment techniques

  • Approaches to health promotion and patient-centred care

  • Assessment and treatment of conditions such as stroke, respiratory illness, sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems

  • Clinical reasoning, communication and interpersonal skills for patient care

  • Collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches to healthcare delivery

  • Practical technique development through simulated clinical facilities and supervised placement experience

Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able to assess, plan and deliver evidence-based physiotherapy care for people of different ages and with a wide range of conditions. They will be able to apply their understanding of anatomy, physiology and movement to real clinical scenarios, and to communicate clearly and sensitively with patients, families and colleagues. Students will also build the confidence to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams, across settings from hospitals and rehabilitation centres to community and sports-based practice, leaving the course ready to begin practising as a competent, autonomous physiotherapist.
