Overview:

The East Asian Studies BA (Hons) introduces students to the histories, cultures, societies and ideas that have shaped East Asia. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the course develops a broad understanding of the region while encouraging students to examine its diversity, connections and changing place in the wider world.

What You'll Learn:

  • Historical developments and major periods across East Asia

  • Cultural traditions, beliefs and intellectual ideas within the region

  • Social and political structures and how they have evolved

  • Connections between East Asian societies and the wider world

  • Different approaches to studying East Asian cultures and societies

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will have developed a broad and informed understanding of East Asian societies, cultures and histories. They will be able to identify and discuss significant themes in the study of the region, place contemporary and historical issues within their wider context, and use appropriate academic approaches to investigate questions about East Asia. Students will also be able to compare different societies and perspectives, evaluate information and arguments critically, and communicate their analysis clearly in an academic setting. The course provides a foundation for understanding the complexity and diversity of East Asia while building transferable skills in research, interpretation and critical thinking.heffield School of Architecture.

Requirements

Kuwait: Completion of High School / Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-A'ama (General Secondary Education Certificate) with a minimum overall average of 90%.
UKVI IELTS (Academic) 5.0 with 5.0 in Writing and no band below 4.0 (or approved SELT equivalent).
