Campuses

Deakin University operates across four main physical campuses in Victoria, Australia—Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront, and Warrnambool—alongside dedicated international branch footprints in GIFT City, India, and Bandung, Indonesia. Established in 1974 and named after Australia's second Prime Minister, Alfred Deakin, the university delivers comprehensive programs across arts, education, business, law, health, engineering, information technology, and science.

The flagship and largest footprint is the Melbourne Burwood Campus, situated roughly 45 minutes east of Melbourne’s central business district alongside Gardiners Creek parkland. Serving over 30,000 students, Burwood accommodates the university’s primary administrative offices, the award-winning Woods Bagot–designed Law Building, the Deakin Business School, computing suites, creative media studios, nursing simulation labs, and modern student residential accommodation villages.

In the regional city of Geelong, seventy kilometers southwest of Melbourne, the university maintains two distinct campus sites. The Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, the original founding site of the institution, is spread across 325 hectares of expansive grounds. Waurn Ponds acts as a major STEM, medical, and sports research hub, housing the School of Medicine, the Geelong Technology Precinct, advanced engineering laboratories, regional health simulation centers, and the Elite Sports Precinct—featuring FIFA-grade pitches and AFL training facilities. Complementing Waurn Ponds, the Geelong Waterfront Campus sits directly in Geelong's central business district along Corio Bay. Housed within repurposed, heritage-listed 19th-century woolstores, the Waterfront site is dedicated to architecture, built environment, occupational therapy, nursing, and law, offering high-tech design studios, coastal views, and nearby student housing facilities.

Further west along the coastal corridor, the Warrnambool Campus covers 94 hectares along the banks of the Hopkins River, approximately five kilometers from the Warrnambool town center. Established following a merger with the Warrnambool Institute of Advanced Education, this regional site specializes in marine biology, aquaculture, nursing, education, and coastal environmental sciences, featuring dedicated research vessels, aquatic laboratories, its own railway station stop, and a close-knit residential community.

Internationally, Deakin operates the GIFT City Campus in Gandhinagar, India, focusing on postgraduate programs in technology and business analytics, as well as a joint campus with Lancaster University in Bandung, Indonesia. Across all Australian and international locations, Deakin University links modern teaching and research infrastructure with direct public transit connections.
