Overview

The BA (Hons) Drama and English Literature combines the study of dramatic practice with the critical exploration of literary texts. Students examine how plays, novels, poetry, and other forms of writing communicate ideas, while developing creative, interpretive, and analytical approaches to performance and literature.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate informed knowledge of significant literary and dramatic works, forms, and traditions. They will be able to interpret texts critically, examining how language, structure, character, performance, and context contribute to meaning. Students will develop practical and creative skills through engagement with drama while strengthening their ability to analyse literature from different perspectives. They will also be able to conduct independent research, evaluate relevant evidence, and construct clear, coherent arguments. The course will enable students to connect literary analysis with dramatic practice, recognising how texts can be interpreted through both critical study and performance and how drama and literature engage with wider cultural, historical, and social questions.
