Course Description

Overview

This program provides a solid foundation in human biological sciences while building technical expertise in drug mechanisms and chemical safety. Students explore how pharmaceutical compounds interact with physiological systems and how foreign substances cause toxicological responses in living organisms. Offered by Murdoch University, the course equips future science professionals with the analytical tools needed to contribute to drug development, medical research, and chemical risk assessment.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamentals of human anatomy, physiology, cellular biochemistry, and molecular biology.

  • Principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics governing drug action, absorption, and elimination.

  • Toxicological mechanisms, chemical safety testing, and environmental toxin assessment methods.

  • Experimental design, bioanalytical laboratory techniques, and scientific data interpretation.

  • Therapeutic drug discovery pipelines, safety evaluation protocols, and regulatory frameworks.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates evaluate the physiological effects of drugs and chemical agents using scientific data and pharmacological frameworks. By applying standard laboratory techniques and analytical methods, students assess toxicological hazards, interpret experimental findings, and contribute to safe medical research and drug development practices.
