Course Description

Overview

As digital interfaces become increasingly embedded in daily life, the tech industry requires skilled developers capable of designing software that genuinely complements human behavior, cognition, and culture. Students eager to bridge the gap between complex code and intuitive user experience can pursue theBachelor of Computer Science (Honours) majoring in Human-Centred Computing at the University of Adelaide, where they explore how to build accessible, holistic computing systems. The curriculum moves beyond standard programming to investigate the profound psychological and social influence of technology, guiding learners in the creation of natural interactions and dynamic user interfaces. Benefiting from a unique partnership with the Australian Research Centre for Interactive and Virtual Environments (arcIVE), students gain direct exposure to cutting-edge research in large-scale interactive systems and immersive virtual environments. Furthermore, an embedded honours year provides the opportunity to undertake intensive, independent research, allowing learners to tackle global ethical challenges in technology design alongside industry leaders. This degree is ideally suited for empathetic, analytical thinkers who wish to enhance human capabilities through authentic, user-focused software innovation. Graduates will emerge with advanced programming skills and a deep understanding of human-computer interaction, ready to optimize digital systems across vital sectors such as healthcare, education, and social media.

What You'll Learn
