Overview

This specialized program focuses on generating electrical power from sustainable sources and integrating them into modern energy supply networks. Students explore the technical principles of harnessing solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal resources alongside traditional power grids to facilitate the global shift toward sustainable energy infrastructure. Offered through Edith Cowan University, the curriculum balances foundational electrical engineering theory with practical problem-solving to address contemporary challenges in energy conversion and management.

What You'll Learn

  • Core engineering science principles, including dynamics, materials, computer-aided design, and foundational circuit analysis.

  • Analogue and digital electronics, programming fundamentals, signal analysis, and embedded systems architecture.

  • Sustainable power generation mechanisms, focusing on solar photovoltaic, wind turbine, hydroelectric, biomass, and geothermal conversion technologies.

  • Principles of designing, modeling, and conducting economic evaluations of renewable energy systems and hybrid distribution networks.

  • Advanced electrical power engineering topics, power system stability, high-voltage equipment, and grid integration strategies.

  • Professional engineering practice skills, including project management, collaborative design methodologies, sustainable development, and ethical standards.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this degree, students will be capable of designing, modeling, and optimizing complex electrical power and renewable energy systems through the systematic application of engineering fundamentals. Graduates will possess the technical competence to diagnose multifaceted power engineering issues, evaluate hybrid energy performance, and synthesize innovative solutions using modern computational software and simulation tools. Furthermore, students will demonstrate the project leadership, critical thinking, and collaborative skills needed to lead technical projects within multidisciplinary teams while adhering strictly to environmental safety guidelines, ethical codes, and professional regulations. They will also communicate technical findings effectively to both specialized engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
