Course Description

Overview

Understanding how chemical agents and drugs interact with biological systems, evaluating safety parameters, and developing novel therapeutics are vital for modern pharmaceutical science, healthcare, and clinical research. Associated with Griffith University, this foundation pathway equips students with essential scientific knowledge, biological principles, and academic competencies. By integrating foundational human biology, chemical sciences, and quantitative data analysis, the curriculum prepares learners to analyze biochemical mechanisms and transition seamlessly into undergraduate studies in pharmacology and toxicology.

What You'll Learn

Core biological concepts, including human anatomy, cellular physiology, genetics, and systemic pathology.

Key chemical and pharmacological principles, including organic reaction structures, drug action mechanisms, and toxicological responses.

Applied mathematics, biostatistics, and quantitative data processing for scientific and clinical research.

Fundamental laboratory techniques, analytical measurement methods, and safety protocols in chemical and biological sciences.

Essential academic English communication, scientific literature synthesis, and formal technical writing.

Scientific research design, evidence-based problem-solving, and analytical frameworks in health and pharmaceutical contexts.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this program, students will be able to apply biological and chemical principles to analyze drug-body interactions, toxicological risks, and experimental scenarios. Participants will acquire the capabilities to interpret quantitative scientific datasets, evaluate peer-reviewed literature critically, and express complex medical and biochemical concepts clearly through written reports and presentations. Furthermore, graduates will establish the critical quantitative reasoning, academic language proficiency, and rigorous scientific grounding needed to excel in degree-level studies in pharmacology and toxicology.
