Course Description

Overview

This foundational pathway prepares international students for entry into degree-level studies in drug action, chemical biology, and therapeutic sciences. Delivered through Taylors College in preparation for The University of Sydney, the curriculum builds essential capabilities in molecular chemistry, human biosciences, and quantitative analysis. Learners examine fundamental chemical principles, cellular biological processes, and scientific reporting standards, establishing the core academic baseline required to transition into the Bachelor of Science with a major in Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Science.

What You'll Learn

Biological Chemistry and Molecular Mechanics: Principles of chemical reactions, bonding, stoichiometry, and organic molecules relevant to biological systems.

Human Biosciences and Cellular Biology: Basic cellular structures, metabolic processes, and physiological systems governing organ functions.

Mathematical and Quantitative Methods: Numerical calculations, algebraic techniques, and elementary data interpretation for scientific disciplines.

Scientific Research and Data Analysis: Laboratory data collection, experimental logic, and introductory statistical analysis.

Academic Communication and Literacy: Formal scientific writing standards, structured reporting, critical evaluation of literature, and academic integrity.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this initial stage, students will understand essential biological, chemical, and quantitative concepts underlying drug and physiological sciences. They will be capable of conducting introductory scientific calculations, interpreting experimental data, and communicating research findings through structured academic reports. Furthermore, graduates will demonstrate the critical thinking capabilities, laboratory reasoning, and independent study practices necessary to excel in undergraduate pharmacology and pharmaceutical science coursework.

Requirements

Kuwait: Completion of High School / Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-A'ama (General Secondary Education Certificate) with a minimum overall average of 85%, inlcuding 80% in 4 academic subject.
