Overview
The BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence at the University of York combines core computing principles with the study of intelligent technologies. The course explores how software and computational systems are designed while examining how algorithms, data and machine learning can be used to create systems capable of performing complex tasks.
What You'll Learn
Programming and software development for building computational solutions.
Algorithms and data structures for efficient problem-solving.
Computer architecture, operating systems and fundamental computing principles.
Databases and methods for managing and processing digital information.
Computer networks and communication between connected systems.
Artificial intelligence concepts, techniques and applications.
Machine learning approaches for enabling systems to identify patterns and make predictions.
Mathematical and statistical foundations supporting computing and AI.
AI-related issues, including the evaluation and responsible use of intelligent systems.
Research, critical analysis, independent project work and technical communication.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply computer science principles to analyses problems and develop effective computational solutions. They will understand how programming, algorithms, data, software and computer systems work together and how these foundations support artificial intelligence. Students will be able to explain and apply key AI and machine learning techniques, evaluate computational approaches and interpret the results produced by intelligent systems. They will also develop skills in designing, implementing, testing and assessing software-based solutions. Through independent research and structured problem-solving, students will learn to evaluate technical information critically, consider relevant implications of AI technologies and communicate complex computing and artificial intelligence concepts clearly.
