Overview

Caring for animal health touches everything from household pets to farming and wildlife, and training as a veterinary surgeon demands both deep scientific knowledge and genuine hands-on clinical skill. The BVSc Veterinary Science at the University of Bristol uses a case-based curriculum built around real clinical scenarios, giving students practical experience with animals from early in the course. Teaching takes place across two campuses, the city-based Clifton site and the rural Langford site, home to the Bristol Veterinary School's clinical facilities, working farms and referral hospital. The course suits students committed to a demanding, practically grounded route into veterinary medicine, with recognised professional accreditation supporting future careers working with a wide range of species.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply a strong scientific understanding of anatomy, physiology and disease to the diagnosis and management of a wide range of clinical conditions. They will be equipped to handle and care for multiple species, having developed practical clinical, surgical and communication skills through hands-on placements and supervised practice. Through progressively complex case work and extended clinical rotations, students will build sound clinical reasoning and professional judgement suited to real veterinary practice. Graduates will leave as internationally recognised veterinary professionals, ready to pursue a wide range of career paths across companion animal, farm, equine or exotic species practice.
