Course Description

Overview

Protecting ocean environments and understanding aquatic biodiversity are crucial for sustaining global ecological health. Offered by The University of Western Australia, this course provides a comprehensive scientific grounding in the dynamics of ocean ecosystems and marine organisms. Through a blend of biological theory, observational techniques, and environmental analysis, students explore how marine life adapts, interacts, and responds to environmental pressures.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamentals of oceanography, biological diversity, and marine organism physiology.

  • Ecological principles governing coastal environments, coral reefs, and open ocean habitats.

  • Key concepts in fisheries science, ocean conservation, and marine resource management.

  • Field research methodologies, biological sampling techniques, and spatial ocean mapping.

  • Impacts of environmental variation, marine pollution, and climate change on aquatic life.

  • Analytical methods for collecting, evaluating, and processing marine ecological data.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this program, students will be able to evaluate the biological and environmental processes that shape marine ecosystems. Participants will gain the practical skills needed to conduct field surveys, assess ecosystem health, and interpret biological data from diverse ocean habitats. Additionally, graduates will formulate evidence-based solutions for marine conservation, marine management, and sustainable aquatic resource stewardship.
